Former Chelsea star John Mikel Obi is a free agent after terminating his contract with Turkish club, Trabzonspor, in March due to comments he made on coronavirus on Instagram.
According to reports, Mikel has been in talks with Brazilian side Botafogo ahead of a likely move to Brazil.
Botafogo has already made an official proposal and are awaiting Mikel’s reply, with sources revealing he is having a talk about the deal with his long-term partner, Olga Dyachenko.
According to reports, the Brazilian side are doing everything possible to sign the Nigerian and are trying to lure him with a mouth-watering contract.
ESPN report that Mikel has been offered a mouth-watering 18-month contract worth $2million by Botafogo.
Jorge Nicola of ESPN, on his YouTube channel, revealed that the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club are offering the Nigerian star a huge amount worth more than what he earned at Turkish side Trabzonspor.
However, Mikel is believed to have told them to add to it. Mikel is keen to take his time and see if he’d have better offers before football resumes.
The Brazilian club however maintain that they have reached the limit of what they can offer the Nigerian, but are optimistic that the 32-year-old will eventually sign.
