Premier League clubs were used to seeing Philippe Coutinho torment the league during his time at Liverpool, but the Brazilian has struggled to perform since the £154m move to Barcelona in January 2018.
A loan move to German giants Bayern Munich couldn’t help resurrect his career, and Coutinho is now targeting a return to the Premier League, with Chelsea believed to be the most interested in signing him up.
However, reports now claim that Arsenal are preparing to begin talks with Philippe Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, over a deal to sign the midfielder from Barcelona.
According to Le10 Sport, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is behind the move as he ‘dreams’ of bringing Coutinho to Arsenal and would make the midfielder a focal point in the team.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has urged Chelsea to forget about signing Coutinho and rather go for Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
Leboeuf told ESPN FC: “Yes. I like his maturity on the field, he looks like someone who is 30 and knows exactly what he has to do and when he has to do it.
“The goal he scored was very clever, between the goalkeeper’s legs. He’s the master orchestrator of that team and I talked about him last week and I said that’s a player that I would hire for sure.
“When we were talking Chelsea about Coutinho, when you see that player [Havertz], he should be in the Premier League very soon.
“He should be because he’s a very, very talented player.”
