Chelsea hero Mikel Obi has since terminated his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor and is currently a free agent, waiting for when football will resume.
Meanwhile, Mikel has been linked with a move to Brazil, with Brazilian side Botafogo keen on his signature.
Meanwhile, Globo presenter Luis Roberto has likened former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel to Manchester City hero Yaya Toure who has also been linked with a move to Brazil, saying they play in a similar position and will light up the Brazilian league.
Roberto reckons that Mikel and Toure would make a difference if they are signed by Botafogo.
In quotes carried by Fogaonet citing Canal do TF, Roberto stated: “Yaya Touré found a lot of freshness.
“I broadcast Mikel’s spectacular games, they play in a similar position, Mikel played further back in the last World Cup.
“Yaya doesn’t know if he wants to live in Brazil, that’s fine, but … Anyway, one or the other, or even both, it would be really cool for Botafogo.
“They would add a lot and elevate the game of Botafogo to think about big things, like a place in the Libertadores and even a title”.
Botafogo has already made an official proposal and are awaiting Mikel’s reply, with sources revealing he is yet to decide on his next move as he is waiting for football resume.
