Former Barcelona and Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o took a swipe at former Liverpool striker El-Hadji Diouf for claiming he’s Africa’s best ever.
Eto’o went on to claim he’s the undisputed greatest player from the African continent, and even better than Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
“Even if my brother Diouf the last time, with an extra glass, got a little lost, there is no debate”, Eto’o said as quoted by Goal.
“None of them [Diouf and Drogba] can come and say that they were at my level or better.
“And it’s not the fact that I say it, it’s a fact, it’s something that is there. I wanted to be number one and I have been throughout my career.”
Meanwhile El Hadji Diouf believes he must have been misunderstood and has come out to clear things right. According to Diouf, he believes the two best African players of the last decade were Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o but then hailed Nigeria’s Jay-Jay Okocha as the most talented African Player he has ever seen.
“When I said that I am the most talented I did not say that I was the best. I spoke French. The most talented does not mean the best,” Diouf told RSI, as per Press-Sport.
“The two best African players of this decade are Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba but on the other hand the most talented one cannot say that it is Diouf, It is impossible.
“The most talented African football since I was born is Okocha. He’s the most talented player I’ve ever seen, but he didn’t win a trophy, he didn’t win a gold ball.”
