Rabbi Matondo has admitted he shunned Chelsea to join Manchester City as a 15 year old.
After three years at Manchester City without any first team appearance, Matondo left for Schalke and is highly rated in the Bundesliga.
The winger has impressed in Germany and is now valued at around €60 million by Schalke.
Explaining why he chose Manchester City instead of Chelsea as a 15 year old, Matondo told Spox: “Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham were also interested in me. The way City persisted in trying to get me convinced me in the end.”
Asked about his subsequent move to S04, Matondo added: “There were requests from other Bundesliga clubs and from teams from England.
“At the time, however, I was fundamentally of the opinion that I needed match practice at the highest level and that switching to a first team was therefore the right path for my development, regardless of the club selection.”
