The Premier League might be preparing to round up the season for the senior team before the end of July, but the league has gone on to officially cancel the academy season for all age groups – right from Under-23s to Under-9s.

Chelsea development squad, that is the U23 squad won’t get the chance to celebrate their triumph, having been top of the Premier League 2.

The official statement reads: “This decision, which is independent of any discussions regarding the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign for first team football, has been taken to give academy staff and their players clarity at this challenging time.

“The curtailment will include all U9 to U16 games as well as the U18 and U23 competitions. The methodology for determining the final league standings and outcomes for the season will be decided at a future date.”

Chelsea are 3 points ahead of second-placed Leicester with 4 games to play, and a decision hasn’t yet been made whether the Blues young side would be crowned champions or not.

For the U18 team, the youth side will also be waiting for a decision on the FA Youth Cup, as they are due to face Man United in the semifinal, but it’s unclear whether it’s going to happen at all.
