Chelsea have been linked with a number of players as we approach the summer transfer window, and the Blues have made only one first team signing in Hakim Ziyech in Frank Lampard’s era.
The finances of many clubs have been badly affected by the lack of football in the last two months, with clubs not being able to generate revenues, but still paying bills of players and staff.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Simon Johnson, has claimed that Chelsea will be able to afford at least one big signing in the upcoming transfer window, with Frank Lampard keen on adding a striker to the squad.
“Yes, they’re on the hunt for another forward,” the reputable reporter said on the ‘Straight Outta Cobham’ podcast. “But it’s a lot more difficult. I think Chelsea have enough in their budget.
“I was talking to someone the other day, who said that in all likelihood they’ll be one big signing, and then whatever comes up, swap deals etc…
“The striker which Frank wants is someone who can hold up the ball and play around him. Which is very much a Giroud type striker.”
Chelsea were unable to make any signings in the last two transfer windows as the Blues saved some money, coupled with the £88m sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.
