Chelsea have been linked with RB Leipzig’s striker Timo Werner, with Liverpool also rumoured to be favourites for his signature.
According to the Mirror, Chelsea have just ’12 days left’ to trigger the £49 million release clause in Timo Werner’s contract at RB Leipzig that runs until the summer of 2023.
The German’s buyout clause expires on June 15, and the Blues might be forced to pay an astronomical fee for the German if it goes beyond June 15.
According to The Telegraph, Werner is thought to be keen on a move to Anfield, but that has not stopped Chelsea exploring the situation with a view to making a bid of their own.
The report claims that should Liverpool continue to drag their feet, that Chelsea are ready to make an offer for Werner.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea may be willing to allow Werner’s current release clause to expire because it drops to £36m in 12 months and the German club have virtually admitted defeat over the prospect of keeping the 24-year-old.
