Frank Lampard’s decision to let David Luiz leave the club during last summer’s transfer window was met with a lot of backlash, but it seems the Blues boss made the right decision to sell Luiz to bitter rivals Arsenal for a fee of £8m.
It’s been mistake after mistake for the Brazilian since he left Chelsea, and the 33-year-old was at fault again as the Gunners were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Luiz started on the bench but was brought on when Pablo Mari suffered an injury.
Late in the first-half, Luiz made a calamitous howler to hand Manchester City a 1-0 lead against Arsenal, as he hashed at a cross and failed to make solid contact with the ball, thus allowing Raheem Sterling to score the opener.
After the restart, Luiz was shown a red card after he hauled down Riyad Mahrez inside Arsenal’s area, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring from the resultant spot-kick.
