Chelsea got the edge over the weekend round of games as the Blues beat Aston Villa 2-1, while all of Chelsea rivals for the top four dropped points, including Leicester City and Manchester United.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes securing a top-four finish for United is vital for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if he must be considered as a top manager.

Speaking to Betfair, the Bulgarian said: “It’s massive for United to finish in the top four. It will give confidence to the manager.

“We all know he gets criticised and put under pressure and people are constantly speculating about his position, but this would cement him in the job.

“He shouldn’t be seen as a transition figure anymore, it’s disrespectful, it shows him no respect to what he is doing in his position.

“The first games are so important, they need to take their chance. If they do, then there will be a massive change next season and it will be huge.”

Chelsea have a five-point cushion ahead of United with eight games left to play. Many pundits have backed United to topple Chelsea in the race, but the Blues definitely won’t come down from this position.
