Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had held conversations with Timo Werner about a likely move to Anfield, and it was expected that he’d seal a move to Liverpool at the end of the day.
Despite all the links with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, Chelsea eventually sealed a deal for the 24-year-old, and the move was confirmed by the club on Thursday.
Klopp was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, what went wrong with his pursuit of Werner, and the Liverpool manager wasn’t impressed with the question.

Responding to the question, Klopp said: “That’s not really funny. We don’t really speak about transfers we potentially do. And now I would speak about the transfer of Chelsea?
“Funny! Why should I do that? I have nothing to say about that. Timo Werner is a really good football player and yesterday now I have heard it he has been announced for Chelsea next season. That’s it.”
