Willian is one of the two players left at the club that was teammates with Frank Lampard during his time as a Chelsea player – the other being current skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.
Willian has proven to be an important player for the club since joining in 2013, and his future might be away from Stamford Bridge as he’s yet to agree terms to a new contract with Chelsea.
However, Willian had pledged his short term future to Chelsea after agreeing to extend his current deal beyond the July 1 expiration date.
Speaking about the importance of Willian following the win against Manchester City, Lampard admitted that the Brazilian is a player that the Chelsea players look up to.
Lampard said: “I’m delighted with Willian, he’s been great for me this season. The players look up to him, he’s a senior player in the group. He has quality, he has work ethic and it was a continuation of his form for big parts of the season.”
Willian has now revealed that he’d like to finish the campaign with Chelsea and he hopes to remain at the club beyond the season.
“I want to finish the season well if I go, or maybe I can stay,” Willian said.
“I don’t know but what I want now is to play well and for Chelsea to finish in the top four.”
Willian also revealed that he’s feeling good despite having been out of action for up to three months.
“I’m feeling good,” he noted. “We had one month to prepare well with a lot of fitness training so all the players feel good to play and we showed that on the pitch.
“We have to keep going,” he continued when assessing the race for Champions League qualification.
“We know teams that come from behind want to win to go in the top four as well so we have to do our job.”
