Chelsea have stepped up interest in the race for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell after agreeing terms with German international Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
While Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on bringing the England international to Stamford Bridge, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is also interested in signing the 23 year old left-back.
Signing Chilwell won’t be an easy task for the Blues this summer. According to Daily Mirror, Leicester City are employing the same tactic over Chilwell that they used to secure a record fee for Harry Maguire.
Leicester City reportedly stubbornly refused to name a price for Maguire last summer. This meant Manchester United kept bidding more and more before eventually paying £80million for Maguire, making him the world’s most expensive defender.
Leicester City reportedly want Chilwell’s transfer to break Maguire’s record and have adopted the same stance over Chelsea target Chilwell.
It is believed Chelsea might have to pay up to £85 million for Chilwell, which will make him the most expensive defender in the world, but the Blues believe the coronavirus crisis will help lower his price-tag this summer.
Manchester City’s willingness to push for the transfer of Chilwell might see the transfer fee for the England international rise and obviously break Maguire’s record.
