David Luiz had a horror showing against Arsenal as the Citizens defeated Arsenal 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Jamie Carragher has said there are no excuses for David Luiz’s mistake after making two massive errors in the game.
Late in the first-half, Luiz made a calamitous howler to hand Manchester City a 1-0 lead against Arsenal, as he hashed at a cross and failed to make solid contact with the ball, thus allowing Raheem Sterling to score the opener.
After the restart, Luiz was shown a red card after he hauled down Riyad Mahrez inside Arsenal’s area, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring from the resultant spot-kick.
At half time on Sky Sports, Carragher was asked if Luiz could be forgiven for his mistake.
He responded: “Not really, it’s happened so often before, a lack of concentration. Maybe he thought it was too easy when it came in.
“It’s happened so often, it’s no surprise why he’s on the bench. There’s no future for him at Arsenal next season.”
Gary Neville didn’t have kind words for him after the second error.
“I have no words really,” said Gary Neville. “I’ve said everything I’ve needed to say over the years. He never learns. So rash. The point when David Luiz came on, that’s when Manchester City have won this game.”
