Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has hailed the current state of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Mikel and Salah were teammates at Chelsea, but it never really worked out for the Egyptian star at the Bridge before he eventually left the club.

Salah signed for Chelsea from Basel in 2013 for around £11m and after a loan deal at Fiorentina and Roma, he was eventually sold to Roma in 2016.

The following year after his sale, Liverpool bought him back for £33m much to the surprise of everyone, and Salah has gone on to become one of the best players in the world since then.

Mikel has now admitted that he didn’t expect the Salah he knew at Chelsea to become the player he is now.

“When Salah came to Chelsea, he was a young boy, but he had a nice personality and everyone loved him,” Mikel told OnTime Sports.

“He was very disciplined, we were close friends, talking a lot and joking a lot, he was a good friend.

“I believed in his development, but frankly I did not imagine that he would reach the quality that he has now.”
