Chelsea were in dire need of a goal when Frank Lampard decided to introduce Christian Pulisic.
The American star last played for the Blues on New Year’s Day, in a draw game against Brighton.
His introduction was timely as he came on for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 55th minute, and it didn’t take him long to score the equaliser for Chelsea, as he scored within five minutes of his introduction.
Pulisic has revealed how glad he felt to have helped the team and there were no specific instructions from the boss for him.
“I’m really glad that I could come in and help the team in any way that I could,” he said. “Luckily I was able to get a goal and also help us get a great result.
“The manager just told me to go on and try and help us win the game. There was nothing special or anything in particular, I just wanted to try and use my talents and see what I could do. I’m happy I was able to do that.
“I don’t think I actually hit it perfectly with my left,” he admitted, speaking about his far-post finish from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross.
“Luckily I got enough on it to steer it on target and I was just happy to see the ball go in.”
