According to Adrian Clarke of Premierleague.com, Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the top four will be boosted by the return of midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The 24 year old midfielder hasn’t featured for the Blues all season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon last May.
Clarke reveals how Loftus-Cheek will be of great help to Chelsea this season:
1. Loftus-Cheek’s goals from midfield will help the Blues. The midfielder averaged a goal every 163.8 minutes last season, and only Tammy Abraham has been better this season with a goal every 149.5 minutes.
2. Chelsea have often struggled to turn possession into goalscoring opportunities when teams defend deep. Loftus-Cheek’s dribbling ability will help open spaces for the Blues.
Mateo Kovaci has been Chelsea’s best dribbler this season with 3.7 completed dribbles per 90 min but Loftus-Cheek has a better stat of 3.8 dribbles per 90 min.
3. Last season, Chelsea scored more goals with Loftus-Cheek in the team. The Blues averaged a goal every 32.4 minutes when Loftus-Cheek played. In comparison, over the course of that 2018/19 campaign the Blues scored once every 54.3 minutes.
