Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has been troubled by back pain since February and his international head coach Ryan Giggs has revealed that he is suffering from groin pains.
Ampadu is on loan with RB Leipzig, and Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann had confirmed prior to the clash that the 19-year-old will not be part of the Leipzig squad that travelled to Cologne looking for a win that would see them return to third in the Bundesliga. Leipzig eventually won the game 4-2 away from home.
Ampadu’s loan is due to expire at the end of this month and he will not extend his stay in the German side.
Ampadu played a key role in the Champions League clash against Tottenham, as he put in a commanding performance in the heart of defence that helped his side keep a clean sheet.
Ampadu’s time in Germany hasn’t gone as planned as he has not made a single league start and appeared just three times off the bench for a squad stacked with young talent.
The young Welshman is highly rated at the club, and even Frank Lampard is keeping a keen interest in his progress.
