Reports have confirmed that Chelsea have agreed a deal in principle to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Chelsea beat Liverpool in the race for Timo Werner as the Blues have moved to trigger the £49 million release clause in Timo Werner’s contract at RB Leipzig that runs until the summer of 2023.

Werner who has proven to be a top goalscorer with 25 goals in 29 Bundesliga games already this season, is expected to the number one striker for Chelsea next season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham who’s currently the club’s top striker, hasn’t been intimidated by the news.

Instagram account 433 shared the news regarding Werner’s expected transfer, and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham as well as Kepa Arrizabalaga liked the post on social media.

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has warned that this is bad news for young Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Nicol told ESPN FC: “I don’t believe Frank and Chelsea are going to change the way they play.

“You have to say, it spells the end for Tammy Abraham. Goodness knows what’s going through his [Abraham’s] head right now.

“Allegedly, Lampard has been telling Werner he’s building the team around him. You don’t build your team around a winger, you build your team through the spine, your centre-back, centre-midfielder or centre-forward. That means straight away Tammy Abraham is in trouble.

“It’s a good move for Frank. He’s got to take them from fighting for top-four to trying to compete [for the title].

“To do that, you’ve got to get better players and you have to be a sweet-talker. It seems Frank was a good sweet-talker to Werner.

“I would suggest though, if that’s the way Frank’s going to go, he’s going to end up with no physicality in his team whatsoever.

“You’ve got Pulisic, Werner and Hudson-Odoi as your front three, there’s no physicality and your midfield is the same.

“When Frank says he’s building the team around [Werner], he’d better start signing some physicality as well as ability.”
