Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have dropped out of the race for Brazilian midfielder Gerson, according to Esportes.
Jose Mourinho was keen on signing the Flamengo midfielder this summer but Tottenham Hotspur aren’t willing to pay Flamengo’s asking price for Gerson.
Flamengo have reportedly demanded £43m for the 23-year-old – some distance apart from Spurs’ offer of £16m – leaving Chelsea as the only interested party in signing Gerson now.
Meanwhile, Atalanta sporting director Giovanni Sartori has now confirmed that the club will now take up the option to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal.
“We’re going to buy Mario Pasalic on a permanent deal from Chelsea,” Sartori told Sky Sport Italy.
“We want to use the buy option.”
