After sealing a big money move from Liverpool to Barcelona in January 2018, Philippe Countinho has struggled to perform at his best, and even a one-year loan deal with Bayern Munich didn’t go well for the Brazilian.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move to sign the former Liverpool star, but reports claim that the Blues won’t be keen to pay a huge figure for the Brazilian.
However, ESPN FC’s transfer expert and pundit Gab Marcotti, has urged Chelsea to make the move for Coutinho and also warned that Barcelona boss Quique Setien could just decide to give the Brazilian one more try at Nou Camp, if Chelsea continue to stall.
Speaking on ESPN FC about the former Liverpool man, the transfer expert said: “There’s no question he’s a very talented player. But at some point, Setien is going to say ‘You know what? Why don’t I have a go with Coutinho?’
“From Barcelona’s perspective, while they’d take a hit regarding wages, it’s a better option than letting him go on a bad deal where they either literally give him away or pay a portion of his wages on loan.
“Those are the decisions that Barcelona might have to make down the road. I hope for the club’s sake that they allow Setien to have a say in terms of whether he salvages Coutinho. There’s a good player in there.”
