Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been strongly criticised for his recent performances, and he was dropped for three games in a row by Frank Lampard.
With Chelsea 2-0 down against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Blues boss Frank Lampard decided to introduce Rudiger for the second-half in order to shore up Chelsea’s defence, but the German was found wanting as his poor clearance led to Sheffield’s third goal.
Asked about Rudiger’s reaction to not starting the last three games, and his performance in the second half, Lampard said: “There was no reaction. What reaction are you talking about? Something you know?”
Probed further on whether he has had to speak to the defender about his recent omissions from the side, Lampard continued: “No he’s been very positive, very positive in training.
“I have selection problems – I say this every press conference – with trying to pick a team out of the squad because there’s competition within the group. And so there’s no problem with him.”
