Chelsea have struggled defensively this season and it continued as we lost 3-2 at West Ham on Wednesday night.

Chelsea fans criticised the centre-back partnership of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger while also criticising left-back Marcos Alonso following their performance against West Ham.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly identified the player to solve Chelsea’s defensive problems.

According to The Athletic, Lampard is eying up West Ham midfielder Declan Rice as the solution to Chelsea’s defensive issues after our vulnerabilities at the back were exposed once again against West Ham on Wednesday night.

Since leaving Chelsea as a 14 year old, Rice has established himself as a regular in West Ham’s midfield but Lampard intends to use him as a centre-back and not in midfield.

Rice began his career as a centre half, only emerging as a central midfielder during the 2018/19 season due to his impressive passing ability.

“Declan Rice is a good player,” Lampard said. “I’ve known him for a long time, he was in Chelsea’s academy, but there’s no talk.

“I will keep saying that about every player until these games and this season are finished. There’s nothing to say.”

  1. Lampard! Considering your thought eyeing Rice is not a problem if only you think that will make us stronger, but one key thing I must say is you have to position your players in a dynamic way, not static. Thinking of the defence to be our weakness is a good pointer, but make no mistake to isolate Antonio from the defence. You may do that by repositioning Kurt, but not Antonio.

Keep it up as I put my trust in you.

  2. Is Rice a defender? Nonsense post. Chelsea should halt further proposed signings until a defender is signed. How can attackers be working up field while our defenders are busy shipping in goals. It’s horrible

I think manager lampard should also look at the defence and sign a new solid centre back and also they should consider and give willian the three year contract.
