Chelsea hero Mikel Obi was having a good season with Trabzonspor in the Turkish league before Covid-19 ensured that the league was suspended.

Mikel had openly criticised the Turkish FA for not suspending the league on time, which eventually led to Trabzonspor terminating his contract.

Trabzonspor were top of the league before the league was suspended and were heading towards a rare title triumph. Eventually, they needed to do it without the influential Mikel Obi in midfield.

Trabzonspor then lost the Turkish League title to Istanbul Basaksehir and the fans blamed the management of the club for the way they handled Mikel’s issue.

The fans believe that the club should have settled with Mikel rather than terminating his contract.

Trabzonspor lost only two games when Mikel was their player. But after his exit, they went on a poor run of form and their title charge capitulated.

Mikel who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea and also the Champions League and a lot of trophies, would have helped given them the experience they needed to win the league.

Mikel is now without a club and is being linked with a return to the Premier League, as well as the Brazilian league.
