Chelsea boss Frank Lampard took a risk as he turned to second choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero for the final game of the Premier League season.
Lampard had seen enough of Kepa’s mistakes and turned to Caballero for the final league game of the season against Wolves.
Chelsea defeated Wolves 2-0, and the Blues went on to seal a top four place in the league.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has revealed that Lampard made a statement with dropping the world’s most expensive goalkeeper for an ‘average goalkeeper’ in Caballero.
“He certainly made a statement today,” Nicol told ESPN.
“The biggest game of the season without a shadow of doubt and he drops the record-signing goalkeeper and plays Caballero, who’s an average Premier League goalkeeper.
“I think that’s a big statement. It worked, it was a clean sheet and so all things are looking good for Frank and Chelsea.”
