Chelsea are believed to be set to make their third signing ahead of next season, but one reporter isn’t having it.
Reports have it that Chelsea are close to announcing the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen with only the small matter of the player’s personal terms left to sort before a transfer can materialise.
Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Gab Marcotti has revealed that he finds this move very suspicious, as he believes that there’s so much noise about the move, compared to when Chelsea signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
“People have talked about Kai Havertz so much,” he said to ESPN FC.
“I get a little suspicious because it’s the same people talking over and over.
“It’s obviously coming from his agent that he wants to leave the club, that Chelsea are the favourites… It’s just weird that they say it so explicitly.
“If you remember the Hakim Ziyech situation, or the Timo Werner situation, it was all quiet quiet quiet, here it’s almost like they’re trying to coax people out.
“They were talking about £100m, now they’re talking about maybe £80m or maybe add-ons…
“I don’t know, if you can get Havertz at the right price, then get him.
“But I don’t think he should be a priority for Chelsea, and I don’t think he is a priority for Chelsea.
“I think it’s just if the price keeps dropping, sure, they’ll get him and raise money elsewhere.”
