Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz is a key transfer target for the Blues and the 21 year old German international is also interested in joining Chelsea.
The Blues lead the race to sign Havertz as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich aren’t willing to push for his signing this summer due to financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Football London, Chelsea have two issues to resolve before completing a deal for Havertz.
The first is Havertz’s transfer fee. Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly demanding £90 million for Havertz but the Blues are unwilling to pay that much for the 21 year old.
Havertz has two years left on his deal with Bayer Leverkusen, and the German side are not in a position where they have to sell right now.
The second issue Chelsea must solve before completing a deal for Havertz is Champions League qualification. Havertz wants to play Champions League football next season and securing a top four finish will help convince Havertz to join Chelsea.
