Chelsea legend Branislav Ivanovic has captained Zenit Saint Petersburg to the Russian double this season but the former Chelsea right-back will now be remembered for dropping and breaking the Russian Cup during the trophy presentation last weekend.
Despite having lifted numerous trophies at Chelsea including the Champions League, Ivanovic lost control of the Russian Cup as he lifted it over his head and watch it tumble to the ground with the crystal lid believed to have been smashed to pieces.
Fortunately, the rest of the trophy survived the fall and the Zenit players celebrated with it lidless.
Zenit posted the video on twitter and expressed their remorse in the tweet as they apologised for the breakage.
‘Ok, you’ve all heard by now we managed to drop and break the Russian Cup, and we’d like to say sorry!’ stated the Russian club.
Meanwhile, Ivanovic was hailed as Chelsea’s best ever right-back by former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “This was a tough one because Cesar Azpilicueta has done a brilliant job since being at Chelsea but ‘Brana’ gets in just ahead.
“What he did sometimes gets overlooked because of the players he had around him.”
