Former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino, has hailed Brighton centre-back Lewis Dunk and says he is the best centre-back from the bottom half of the table.
Dunk has urged Chelsea to rather go for Dunk, and believes he’s an exceptional defender who can fit in well for Chelsea.
“He’s not just a brute that wins headers. He’s a fine footballer,” Tony Cascarino said of Lewis Dunk as quoted by talkSPORT.
“If you said to me, of the bottom half of the table who I think is the very best centre-half, I think it’s him.
“His consistency over a number of seasons has been brilliant. His partnership with [Shane] Duffy was exceptional. He’s moved from a two to a three and he’s done really well in the three as well.
“[Brighton] are a side who have changed their backline so he’s capable of playing not only in a back-four but a back-five.”
Chelsea’s defence was in shambles last season, and the Blues conceded 54 goals in the Premier League alone.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of centre-backs, and Blues boss currently have Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori in their ranks. Lampard may have to sell one of his centre-backs to get a new defender for next season, as he’d try to seal up the defence.
