Chelsea B coach Andy Myers has revealed his delight as the Blues development squad were finally awarded the Premier League 2 title on Thursday.
The Premier League 2 was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The season didn’t resume, and shareholders and academy managers agreed that a points-per-game system should decide the final league standings. Chelsea were top on the table, and the Blues ended up becoming Premier League 2 champions.
Chelsea coach Andy Myers has revealed his delight at winning the title.
“I’m really pleased that we’ve won the league title, especially as nobody knew what was happening, understandably due to more important world matters,” he told the official Chelsea website.
“It’s long overdue and I’m really pleased for the players, coaching staff and everyone in the Academy as it’s a feeling that we haven’t had for a little while.
“When I think back to pre-season this time last year, we had a small squad, quite a young squad too, in terms of experience at this level, and the main focus was to keep players fit as they would have to play across a few competitions.
“I’ve got to give credit to the strength and conditioning staff and the medical staff who made sure preparations were done in the morning and worked hard on injury-prevention tactics, which was something we focused on in the previous campaign – and most importantly the players all bought into it.”
