For some years now, Chelsea haven’t really been active in the transfer window, and the Blues have mostly gone for average players in recent seasons.
The last time Chelsea made significant signings in the summer transfer window was during Jose Mourinho’s era, when the club signed Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa in 2014. The Blues would eventually win the league that same season.
Since then, it’s been mostly scrappy deals Chelsea have been involved in, before the transfer ban made things worse.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, is keen to rectify things, and the Blues have already signed top players in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner ahead of next season, with some big names expected to join in.
Kai Havertz is another top player to have been linked with Chelsea, but ESPN pundit Gabriele Marcotti, doesn’t think Chelsea have any need to strengthen that area, with the availability of Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in that position.
“I don’t think Chelsea feel they need Kai Havertz considering the players they’ve already added, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are already there, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the list goes on and on,” ESPN’s Gabriele Marcotti said.
“But equally Chelsea are saying if there’s a chance they can get him at a price they like and at terms they like, yeah they’ll go for it. I don’t think Chelsea are going to budge from their position or inch forwards.
“I don’t think Lampard will pressure the club to say he needs Havertz now, not while they have more important positions to fill and other positions elsewhere.”
