Young Chelsea goalkeeper Jamie Cumming will join League Two side Stevenage on a season-long loan deal for the entire 2020/21 season.
The Chelsea academy product has been acting as understudy to Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero, and is now set to get his first taste of senior team football.
Cumming had a good time in the youth setup, having enjoyed successive FA Youth Cup triumphs in 2017 and 2018, playing in all but one of our eight ties in the latter campaign, and caught the eye in the 2018 UEFA Youth League semi-finals with a heroic penalty shoot-out performance against Porto.
Cumming has been at Chelsea since the age of 8, and he signed a four year deal with the club last year.
Upon signing that contract, he also warned first team goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero, that he’d be ready to take their spot soon.
He told the official Chelsea website: “First and foremost, I just want to work as hard as I can every day and to push Willy [Caballero] and Kepa as much as I can.
“I certainly don’t feel out of place when I train with them, I feel like I belong in that group. They help me and always give me advice so every day is an opportunity to learn.
“I might not play as many games as last season but I’m focused on the positives. Signing this new contract and being involved with the first team at such an exciting time is obviously brilliant for me. Training with the other keepers and all the world-class players we have here is going to benefit me a lot so I’m just planning to take the positives out of it every day.”
