Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be a happy as reports claim the Blues have completed the third signing of the season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have completed the signing of key transfer target Ben Chilwell and will announce the signing of the England international in the next few days.
Lampard have been keen on signing a new left-back having been unimpressed by Marcos Alonso and Emerson last season, and Chilwell has been linked alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon and Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax.
Leicester City initially demanded £80 million for the transfer of Chilwell but the Blues were reluctant to meet Leicester’s asking price.
However, given Chilwell’s desire to join Lampard’s project at Chelsea and the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic on clubs, the Foxes dropped their asking price to nearer £50million.
With Chilwell expected to join Chelsea this week, Leicester City are considering a move for Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico as a replacement for Ben Chilwell.
Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri is expected to leave Chelsea this summer following the signing of Chilwell and he has reportedly agreed personal terms with Inter Milan.
