Chelsea legend Michael Essien cherishes signing for the Blues so much that he has now marked his signing for the club as his birthday.
Originally born on December 3, Essien took to twitter to celebrate his 15th year anniversary of signing for Chelsea.
15 years ago on this day (on Wednesday), Michael Essien signed for Chelsea as the Blues paid £24.4 million for his signing, to make him the most expensive African signing at the time.
The former Chelsea midfielder took to Twitter to celebrate his signing for the club with the hasthag #BluesBirthday as he tweeted out a sweet message and a short 1-minute video of his time at Stamford Bridge.
He wrote on Twitter: “Today is my official #BluesdayBirthday. I officially signed and became a blue 💙 15 years ago today. @chelseafc became part of my life and still is. #HappyBluesDay 💙”
Essien moved to Chelsea from Lyon, and he has recently admitted that Lyon helped his progress as a player, before playing his best football at Chelsea.
“It moved me from being a young player to a senior player at a big club, so, it helped me grow up and feature on the big stage,” he said while speaking to TV3.
“I gained a lot of experience in a short space of time.
“I think the set-up of the club as a whole and the longevity of the president [has helped], there has been continuity and they also know how to develop good players.
“The two titles and Champions League games will be my favourite memories.”
