Despite referees allowed to officiate an FA Cup final just once in their career, Anthony Taylor, who refereed the 2017 FA Cup final, was the man in the middle on Sunday as Chelsea lost 2-1 to Arsenal.

Coincidentally, the 2017 FA Cup final which Taylor refereed was between Chelsea and Arsenal and he also sent off a Chelsea player, Victor Moses.

Speaking about Taylor’s performance in Saturday’s FA Cup final, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg told Daily Mail: “Taylor is highly rated by UEFA and one of the Premier League’s leading referees. His first final was in 2017 when he angered Chelsea fans by letting Arsenal’s opener stand. He also sent off Victor Moses.

“On Saturday, those same supporters were left feeling hard done by again. In the case of Mateo Kovacic’s second yellow card, Chelsea were wronged.

“But the penalty given against them was 100 per cent correct, and Taylor also decided against sending Cesar Azpilicueta off for his foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Azpilicueta’s contact with Aubameyang started outside the box but he still had a hand on the striker’s shoulder as he went down inside.

“Taylor only issued a yellow. He considered Aubameyang was not in complete control of the ball and Chelsea had another defender coming across.

“The second yellow shown to Kovacic was poor, however. It was a 50-50 battle for the ball and Granit Xhaka reacted theatrically.

“Unfortunately, VAR could not correct Taylor because they cannot dispute second yellows — only straight reds. Maybe this showed that VAR should have the power to study second yellows because this clearly had a game-changing impact.”

I think this whole thing is a conspiracy against Chelsea from the FA themselves.

That game Chelsea played against Arsenal in in the 2020 FA final is already water under the bridge, nothing’s gonna change anything, let’s focus our efforts on the next game against Bayern Munich on Saturday 8 August

The referee performance for that evening was poor and unacceptable. Not only in the Kovacic case but also in failing to penalize Arsenal goalkeeper for picking the ball outside the penalty box in course of full play.
Those decisions moved the game to favour Arsenal in the end. What a shame!

  5. Didn’t realise Chelsea were such bad losers

Fifa is jst a scam and a chelsea enemy if they cant reciprocate on tht

  7. FIFA need to penalise the referee

  8. Chelsea lost fairly just like they did in 2014. Azpilicueta should have seen a red card. He was the last man to obstruct a clear goal-scoring opportunity. That said, Chelsea were pure especially after Pulisic was out. Accept and move on because the poor state of Chelsea’s football is going to be laid bare in Munich, wait and see…..

  10. We can’t blame the ref. He made a mistake sending off Kova, but we might have been down to nine men! What the result highlighted was our lack of strength on the day. Once Pulisic was injured there wasn’t much creativity left on the bench. Willian is our only other really creative player. Time to move on and look forward to next season. COYB!

  11. The teferree was unfair e.g kwa kovacic and failure to give ared card to arsenal golkeeper

  12. useless refree who deserves death penalty. poor decision done deliberately. I hate him with all mi heart.

  13. Chelsea fan we got what we deserved sweet FA a rubish game with a rubbish ref
