Despite the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal, Frank Lampard’s first season at the club has been hailed as a fairly successful one, as the Blues are a work in progress and made significant improvements over the course of the season.
Chelsea have been strengthening the attack ahead of next season, with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already in place, and the Blues are being linked with Kai Havertz as well.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea star Joe Cole has urged his former teammate Frank Lampard to also make investment in the defence, as he hailed his first season in charge of the club.
“100 per cent for sure. The improvement has been there,” Cole said of Frank Lampard’s first season in charge at Chelsea.
“If you would have said at the start of the season the squad this Chelsea side had with all the young players was going to finish fourth and get to an FA Cup final.
“If you would have said that, people wouldn’t have believed you, because you have Leicester, Wolves, Spurs and Man United, all these teams.
“The future is bright but there still needs to be recruitment and there still needs to be investment at the back end of the pitch.
“Frank is the man to do that 100 per cent no doubt because what he has done here has been fantastic.”
