Chelsea confirmed the signing of Thiago Silva on Friday on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, as the Brazilian put pen to paper on an initial one-year contract, with the option of another year.
Chelsea legend John Terry who was one of the best defenders in the world during his playing days, has been keen for Chelsea to sign up Thiago Silva.
Terry has since been following up news regarding Silva, prior to the signing of the 35-year-old, and was delighted when it was made official.
The former Chelsea skipper has now revealed his only regret is that he didn’t get to play alongside Silva.
Terry commented under Chelsea’s Instagram post: “I would’ve loved to have played alongside you my friend. Good luck.”
What a centre-back partnership that would have been, between John Terry and Thiago Silva.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed his reason for signing a soon to be 36-year-old centre-back, as he wants the Brazilian to provide leadership not just to the defence but the entire team.
He said: “We have a relatively young squad, we saw that last year, there were games afterwards when I was probably asking for more voice and some more leadership in different ways and he brings that naturally straightaway, and also on the pitch he can help talk and be the player that he is which means affecting others. On those levels I hope he brings that.
“I am pretty sure he will with the qualities we know he has, so I am excited for when he joins up.”
