Many pundits and critics didn’t expect Chelsea to make top four last season, but Frank Lampard led a young Blues side to fourth place in the league, and prove doubters wrong.
One man who wasn’t expecting Chelsea to seal a top four place is former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
When Jose Mourinho took charge of Tottenham, Spurs were closer to the relegation places, but the Portuguese appointment sparked a shortlived revival.
A new Tottenham documentary – new Amazon Prime Video series All or Nothing covers Spurs 2019-20 season.
Following Spurs turn in form, Spurs cut the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just three points heading into a crucial clash between Chelsea and Spurs. A win for Spurs would have seen Tottenham leapfrog Chelsea on goal difference.
The documentary shows how Mourinho had targeted the game against Chelsea as a defining point in the season and felt Spurs could overthrow Chelsea with a win
Mourinho had bragged to his players that his plan would work.
“We win tomorrow, Chelsea lose in Manchester City, they s**t themselves,” Mourinho told his players at a team meeting.
“Nine points, they come here in December, they s**t themselves. We can make top four.”
Chelsea will eventually win the game 2-0, with a brace from Willian, to send Spurs season crashing. Tottenham will eventually finish the campaign in 6th place.
