With Chelsea close to completing deals for all their transfer targets, the marquee signing that the Blues fans can’t wait for, is the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.
Chelsea are keen on completing a deal for Havertz this week, and according to reports, the 21-year-old missed Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season fitness tests this weekend, as Chelsea edge closer to sealing a deal.
According to Bild, Havertz underwent coronavirus testing with Leverkusen on Friday and Saturday which was a necessary requirement so he’d be able to feature in Germany’s upcoming Nations League clashes with Spain and Switzerland.
However, reports also claim that the 21-year-old was absent as Leverkusen’s squad were put through rigorous performance testing on Sunday in preparation for the new Bundesliga campaign.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hailed the impact of his first two signings, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, as the duo put in an impressive performance in the 1-1 draw against Brighton.
The Chelsea manager said: “I thought Timo was really sharp and bright. He got his goal really early in the game, he showed some of the qualities that I know very well he has so I am very excited about having him in the squad.
“I thought his work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great. He has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess, hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances they were both really good.”
