Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and Blues boss Frank Lampard has fueled the rumours more by ‘liking’ a video of the midfielder on Instagram.
Instagram account 433 posted a short clip of Havertz dribbling a Mainz player with a sublime piece of skill with a nutmeg between his legs – and Lampard was a keen admirer as he liked the video.
It is believed that Havertz has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and all that’s remaining is for the two clubs to agree a deal.
However, former Manchester United and Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves, has insisted that signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen won’t solve Chelsea’s problems under Frank Lampard.
“They need some leaders. You want players who walk in and make your team,” Owen Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“They could still finish 4th or 5th with Ziyech, Werner and Havertz. Havertz is special but they need to sort out the goalkeeper and centre-backs first.
“When I think back to those great Chelsea teams, I think back to [Petr] Cech in goal, John Terry, [Claude] Makelele, [Didier] Drogba, the spine. Frank doesn’t have that yet.”
