This year’s summer transfer window is indeed favouring Chelsea, as the Blues have already confirmed two deals for top players in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
More quality players are expected to join Chelsea, with Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz deal expected to be wrapped up soon.
Interestingly, one player that’s now being linked with a move to Chelsea is Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
The 33-year-old has asked to leave the Spanish club, after his relationship with Josep Maria Bartomeu deteriorated significantly over the course of Barcelona’s disappointing 2019/20 campaign. Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all seem to be interested in the diminutive Argentine, who has been hailed as the greatest of all time, by many.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has even further added fuel to the rumours by revealing that he’s heard about Frank Lampard’s interest in Messi.
“Just heard Frank Lampard is now in for Messi,” Ferdinand posted on Twitter.
“Some window this if Lamps pulls this off!!”
Messi’s contract doesn’t expire until next summer and Barcelona are reportedly only willing to let him leave if his £630 million release clause is met.
However, there’s a clause in his current deal which could see him depart on a free transfer this summer. But Barcelona are adamant this clause has expired and insist the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is tied to the club until 2021 with a £630 million release clause.
