Manchester United had a deadline to sign Jadon Sancho on August 10, but the club were unable to agree terms with Borussia Dortmund over a move for Sancho, as the German side were quoting very outrageous figures.
United are believed to have pulled out of the deal, and reports claim that they will now turn their attention to Chelsea target Kai Havertz.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could turn focus to Havertz, who’s £20m cheaper than Sancho.
Leverkusen are demanding £90m for Havertz, while Chelsea are keen to pay nothing more than £70m.
The race for Kai Havertz could now become intense, as Chelsea were the only club strongly pushing for Havertz. But with the emergence of Manchester United, the tables might have changed.
Bayer Sporting director Rudi Voller had warned Chelsea earlier this month, that the Blues won’t be given any discount despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on football’s economy.
“We know of the interest of a couple of clubs, especially Chelsea, but for us, the situation is quite simple; he has a two-year contract, if anyone wants him on our terms, fine, otherwise he stays here another year and we are happy.
“It won’t be easy, but for an artist like him there is no Covid discount.”
