Chelsea have finally confirmed the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian has signed a one-year contract with the Blues, with the option of another year.
Silva is expected to bring his experience to the Chelsea defence next season after the Blues shambolic defending last season that saw the club concede 54 goals in the Premier League alone.
PSG wanted to keep the veteran centre-back for another year, but he chose to sign up for Chelsea instead, and he has now revealed his delight to sign up for the club.
Upon signing for the club, Silva told the club’s official website: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea.
“I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia also hailed the signing as she called Silva a world-class player.
She said: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.
“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.
“Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.”
