Chelsea are keen on signing a top centre-half ahead of next season.
The Blues have four central defenders currently, with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori, all options in defence for Frank Lampard.
However, Blues boss Frank Lampard was unable to get his perfect centre-back pairing, and the verdict was that Chelsea might need a top centre-half to partner any of the current defenders at the club.
Interestingly, Chelsea have been linked with veteran Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva, who will be a free agent at the end of the season.
The Brazilian is 35 years old already and will be 36 in September. Chelsea fans don’t seem too keen on this deal, and writing on Reddit, a Chelsea supporter asked some PSG fans whether Silva would be a good addition for the Blues.
The majority of the response from fans of the Ligue 1 giants was that the defender would indeed be a good signing for Chelsea and is still a top player.
One wrote: “He’s plenty fast, and has world class positioning and anticipation. The man learned from Nesta himself. I honestly think he could do another year for us and not be out of his depth.
Another posted: “I think he would be a great addition to your team for at least one season. He has the leadership and experience to fix your defence.”
A third said: “He is still terrific and has a few more years at real top level. It’s just hard to justify his salary for his age when we’ve got Kimpembe and Marquinhos.”
