Kai Havertz has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Chelsea, and the Bundesliga star is set to join Chelsea this week.
Negotiations for Havertz deal has been really complicated, as Bayer Leverkusen tried to get as much as they could in the deal for their star player. Meanwhile, Chelsea on the other hand, were trying as much as possible not to overpay for the 21-year-old.
Kai Havertz is expected to be Chelsea’s record signing, as his transfer fee will beat the £72m paid to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
Bayer Leverkusen has reached agreement with Chelsea over an initial deal of £72m, with add-ons expected to take it to £90m.
One of the add-ons included in the deal is if Chelsea win the Champions League inside the next five seasons. If the Blues are crowned champions of Europe, Leverkusen will get £9m bonus, which shows just how much quality they believe Havertz will bring to Chelsea.
It’s been eight years since Chelsea last won the Champions League, and Roman Abramovich will be looking forward to another Champions League success.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz has confirmed that Havertz won’t be training with his team again, as he’s now expected to join Chelsea.
Bosz said: “I no longer expect Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz to train with us again.
“It’s possible that other players will be on the move as well. In any case, we have to bring in some players, too.”
