Chelsea started the season with a 3-1 win against Brighton, but the Blues will have a much sterner test against Liverpool on Sunday.
For the game against Brighton, Lampard fielded this team below
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Kepa; James, Christensen, Zouma, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho (c) (Azpilicueta 84); Havertz (Hudson-Odoi 79), Loftus-Cheek (Barkley 60), Mount; Werner.
Unused subs: Caballero, Rudiger, Giroud, Abraham.
This lineup might have gotten the result against Brighton, but it wasn’t a very assured display.
Frank Lampard has confirmed that the likes of Christian Pulisic and new signings Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech will miss this game for reasons such as injury, match fitness and Silva who hasn’t really trained for long with the team.
See our best line-up for this game.
Goalkeeper: Kepa Arrizabalaga
Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Marcos Alonso
Midfield: N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz
Attack: Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Timo Werner
Line-up explained: Besides Timo Werner making some direct runs, Chelsea lacked pace against Brighton, and it would be a huge task to beat Liverpool without pace and trickery. Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic will definitely be missed, but the Blues could call on Callum Hudson-Odoi.
In midfield, Kovacic ought to start, as his sleekness in the middle will be of help to the team, something we missed against Brighton. He could even bring out the best in Kai Havertz.
For defence, the experience of Cesar Azpilicueta might be needed, and we’d go with the centre-back pairing Frank Lampard fielded in the first game.
