Timo Werner’s form for RB Leipzig last season is well documented, as the German scored 28 Bundesliga goals and 34 in all competitions.
Werner proved himself yet again as he scored in his first appearance for Chelsea, in a friendly game against Brighton.
Chelsea will start the new season on Monday night, with yet another away trip to the Amex Stadium, and Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk has vowed to stop Werner this time around.
“He [Timo Werner] scored in the friendly but hopefully he won’t do that Monday night, hopefully I can stop him,” Lewis Dunk said ahead of the game.
“They had some people missing. It’s strange to play another Premier League team in a pre-season friendly. You don’t usually do that but it was a workout.
“They had players that were not there that will be involved in their squad on Monday. It was a good test and it was good to see a couple of their new signings.
“They have bought well and bought sensibly and that will improve them as a team. We have to be ready for that challenge.”
Dunk was linked with a move to Chelsea in this transfer window, before the club went on to sign Thiago Silva, as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain.
