Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has strengthened every area of his team ahead of the new season, after signing six players Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz, with the Blues also expected to sign a new goalkeeper in Edouard Mendy.
In central defence, Chelsea had five options following the signing of Thiago Silva, but there may be exit for one.
The fullback positions are well covered, with Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell to battle it out at left-back. Emerson Palmieri may eventually leave the club, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James will battle for the right-back slot.
In attack and on the flanks, Chelsea have adequate competition, but it’s the midfield area that may need trimming.
Chelsea’s midfield is currently loaded with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Billy Gilmour, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley, Mason Mount and new signing Kai Havertz. The likes of Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko won’t even be mentioned.
Lampard will continue in his more favoured 4-3-3 formation, which means only three of his midfielders can play in each game.
Lampard may have to offload some players, and according to reports, Jorginho and Ross Barkley could be allowed to leave, if a tangible offer comes in.
The big question is: do you think Chelsea are overloaded in midfield? And who do you think should leave?
