Chelsea are in to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of the new season, with Blues boss Frank Lampard keen on signing competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Arrizabalaga underperformed last season, and Chelsea have been in the market for a new goalkeeper.
Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, with Frank Lampard set to make him his seventh signing of the summer.
Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has now claimed that Chelsea have made an official approach for their keeper, with a deal in place for him to move to Chelsea.
Edouard also wants a move to Stamford Bridge, and Holveck didn’t deny it.
“We’ve started official negotiations with Chelsea to sell Edouard Mendy,” Rennes president Nicolas Holveck said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“We know the player wants to leave [and join Chelsea]. But the agreement at the moment is not 100 per cent completed between the three parts.”
