Chelsea did decently under Frank Lampard last season, as the Blues finished in fourth place and ended up securing a Champions League finish.
Despite securing a top four finish, Chelsea were still a long shot away from a title fight, as Frank Lampard’s side finished 33 points behind league champions Liverpool.
However, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has obviously strengthened the weaknesses he observed in the Chelsea team last season, as he signed an experienced central defender in Thiago Silva, a top left-back in Ben Chilwell, a top striker in Timo Werner, a creative midfielder in Kai Havertz and a quality winger in Hakim Ziyech. Chelsea are also expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Lampard’s ex teammate Nicolas Anelka predicts that Chelsea would do well next season, and he believes that the Blues boss would have worked on his team’s shortcomings.
“You need something more to win the title,” the Frenchman told Stadium Astro.
“If you look Liverpool and you look at City, they have young and experienced players.
“I think Frank is clever, he knew what he needed to be able to win and compete against big teams and you need experience.
“When I was playing for Chelsea and Arsenal, we had a young team but also experienced players.
“You still have space for the youngsters to play, they just have to be strong mentally to compete every week.
“This is football, you always have to compete to be able to play. When you’re at a big club, it’s like that.”
